Women's soccer looks forward to league

Coming from a successful 2018-2019 season, Serra High School’s Women Soccer team was CIF runners up last year and this year they are now competing in Division 2.

With a new coach and playing in a new division, the Serra Soccer girls are eager to play against new teams.

Competing in pre-season tournaments, the team has lost a few games.

Captain for the team, senior Rachel Rhodes stated, “The soccer team had it’s rough start in the beginning, but after a couple practices and pre-season games, we have come together as a team and have been winning more.”

A few games into the pre-season, the team beat a Division 1 school, Steele Canyon 1-0.

The goalie for the team, senior Jasmine Lopez has reflected on the start of the new season and the tough game they won by stating, “It's been going pretty good. We’ve been able to succeed against some really hard teams.”

There have been a lot of changes to the soccer team this season, including a new coach, new players, new teams, and losing a few players from last year.

Comparing this season to last season, Rhodes looked back on and contrasted the new additions and losses by stating, “We have lost a couple of starting senior players, that did not choose to compete this year. But this year we had new girls show up and overall we have a great starting lineup.”

As the team continues to practice for their upcoming games, they have grown closer together by hanging out with each other during practices, games, and team bonding events.

Earlier this month, the Serra soccer team started their league games on January 9th.

The team played their third league soccer game against San Diego High School, the same team that they lost to in the CIF Championships.

However, this year our team crushed them, beating them 4-0 with two goals scored by senior Emily Ramirez, a goal scored by junior Logan Roscoe, and a penalty kick (PK) goal scored by senior Rachel Rhodes.

The team have been competing around two to three times every week, at home and away games. Make sure you cheer on our Serra Women’s Soccer team as they continue to play this season!
