TikTok takes the internet by storm, expands creative possibility online

November 22, 2019

TikTok is an IOS or Android social media app where you can make short lip-sync, comedy, and talent videos. Students and even adults can use that app just for the fun. TikTok was launched in 2017 mainly for markets outside of China. It has become one of the most famous apps in the US.

TikTok can also be a fun place where users can make new friends, communicate, and also make entertaining videos during your free time. TikTok is a destination for short videos. Their goal is to capture and present the world's creativity, knowledge, and precious life moments, directly from the mobile phone. TikTok enables everyone to be a creator and encourages users to share their passion and creative side through their videos.

Some TikToks have different varieties of videos Senior Valerie Lopez says, “TikTok can be really fun to watch. I really love watching the painting vids because it’s interesting when they draw on calculators and other different types of objects.”

Other varieties of TikTok videos are also “storytimes.” Junior student, Nicholas Escobedo says, “Usually, I like when people make the ‘story time’ TikToks because it's interesting to hear about different peoples' stories.”

There is plenty of content that you can find on TikTok. Junior student, Matthew Cabrera says “I downloaded TikTok to see what all the hype was about and then I got addicted.” He also said, “I wouldn’t say I’m famous I just kinda got viral over that one TikTok of my friends and I doing handshakes.”

Most popular TikToks can be found on meme pages and on YouTube, which is where most people watch funny videos that people make. Although many people find TikTok entertaining, fun, and addicting, many also find TikTok “cringy” or just not entertaining to them.
